Columbus: hero, villain, or victim of his time?

Thank author of this post/commentI"m doing a report and I want to say victim of his time--because even though he killed indians and all he wanted was gold, plus he took credit for stuff he didn't do, I think the beliefs of his time made him do what he did, and Queen Victoria did put a hell of a lot of pressure on him. What do you think?
