Questions: Should I sell my stocks and buy gold bars now?

Questions: Should I sell my stocks and buy gold bars now? My brother is convinced we are headed to a major recession like never before. I have already lost one third of my stocks holdings. He says by buying gold bars, the value will at least remain the same and should increase. Once the stock market returns I should then sell the gold and get back to investing again in a few years. Should I sell my stocks and buy gold bars now?
